Glenn Beck Back to Basics, Hatred: Beck Voices Xenophobia Toward India and the World

Glenn Beck, as usual, seeks to derail health-care reform through his signature conspiracy ramblings. His means for supporting such a derailment reveals nothing new. Beck illustrating his underlying disdain for India and other nations to validate his stance, however, makes for more appalling news.

Beck began by ripping into the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) for having what Beck perceives to be too much influence on policy. Next, Beck cites praise on the SEIU site for health care in India as proof positive SEIU will try to decrease the income and standards of living in the U.S., all because of Karlyn Zimbelman's mistake of asking why health care costs so much more in the U.S. than it does in India.

To explain why Beck wants to maintain the status quo, he immediately denigrates as many things about Indians and life in India as he can. Comparing medical doctors in India to those in the U.S., Beck sarcastically analogizes, "You can buy a Gucci bag on any New York street corner for like four bucks. No different than the $3,000 real thing. They're identical!" He explains the difference in costs as a consequence of "homes with something that we in America like to call 'flush toilets,'" as if Indians could not possibly have heard of such an invention.

He also demonstrates his in-depth grasp of world geography when mocking the possibility of "getting a hip replacement surgery at the Mumbai Clinic of Punjab," Mumbai being the second-most populated city in the world and located along the western coast of India, whereas Punjab is the name of a state that borders Pakistan on the north.

Speaking about the Ganges, a river held sacred by Hindus for thousands of years, Beck had this to add: "I’m sure it’s beautiful and everything [,...] especially by that one big river they have there that sounds like a disease. Come on, it does. I mean, if somebody said, ‘I’m sorry, you have a really bad case of Ganges,’ you’d want Cipro."

Clearly, Beck must not hold much to be sacred.

He would even extrapolate his hatred to other countries in the world, too. Arguing that SEIU had the interests of the rest of the world in mind, Beck speculates that new jobs created will likely "come from India, China, Pakistan, Copenhagen, however these people on television are pronouncing these stupid countries' names."

In his vitriol, he apparently forgot that Copenhagen is a city, not a country, but with so much unfettered hate, that must be expected.

To tie everything together, Beck inserts Robert Creamer into the mix, claiming that everyone involved in health-care reform only follows the requests set up in Creamer's book. Beck has made Creamer a central focus for his conspiracies for some time, even going so far as to mock his wife, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, by deliberately mispronouncing her name in an obviously bigoted fashion. To Beck, Creamer's brushes with the law mean Creamer should not be allowed anywhere near the White House. If he gets caught driving drunk, though, Beck may have to vote him into office.

How Fox can continue to defend Glenn Beck's xenophobic ranting is beyond any measure of explanation. Beck appears to hate nearly everyone in the world, or at least those with different names and different faces.

The time to ask his superiors to intervene may be long passed. For those who don't hate the world, the only recourse may be to Turn Off Fox.
