Turn Off FOX Campaign Supporters Share Tips on OutFOXing FOX

Since we are fortunate enough to have a very intelligent and driven set of readers here at BuzzFlash, we've received some tips and success stories worth relating in the national drive to Turn Off Fox.

Reader Melissa Bishop of Vero Beach, FL, has brought back a low-tech, often-neglected approach to getting others to turn off FOX--she's begun writing letters:

After visiting a local restaurant where FOX was on their TV, I went home and wrote them a letter saying I really liked the restaurant, but could not stomach their choice of TV channel.  I went on to ask that they please change the channel or I could no longer patronize them.

I got a very nice return phone call from the owner saying a LOT of people felt the same way, they would change the channel, and if I was in the restaurant again and FOX was on, all I had to do was ask that the channel changed. They sounded very sincere and apologetic.

Also, while in various doctors' offices, where FOX is on (which it usually is), I always ask that they please change the channel.  I then go home and write letters to that particular office, saying I am a patient and do not care to visit a doctor whose choice of channel in their waiting room makes me sick.

So far, my campaign is working.  So write letters to any and all establishments who have FOX on their TV's.  JUST DO IT!!


Sometimes the extra ounce of care shown in taking the time to write a letter rather than quickly sending off an angry e-mail makes all the difference.

Another reader had an idea that would both save time when flipping through the channels and ensure no one would accidentally make themselves vulnerable to FOX in your home. In essence, it comes down to ensuring your cable receiver never knows FOX exists.

When you set up your receiver, you have a choice of ALL stations that your receiver can receive, OR you can set up what is called "My Favorites." By setting up your favorites, you can eliminate all the stations you never watch. That way you don't have to scan through them while looking for a station to watch. This saves time and also doesn't remind you of all the trash on TV that you have no interest in seeing. I have eliminated ALL stations related to Fox.

This way, no matter who comes over for dinner, you know they won't try to bring Bill O'Reilly or Glenn Beck along with them.

Turn Off FoX

Those folks clamoring about turning off FOX remind me of the ostrich - - you know, that stupid flightless bird that sticks its head in the sand.

Perhaps it's because, as Jack Nicholson said to Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men , "You can't handle the truth".

I bet that those who can't handle the truth would rather watch brainless TV - - Oprah, Keith "Suck Up" Olberman, Ellen, etc., come to mind.

When Abraham Lincoln said "You can fool some of the people all of the time...", he was talking about those ostriches with their heads in the sand.

Reading some of the blogs gives me a better understanding why our country is in the mess it is.  Why is it people only what to hear from people with the same agenda?  FOX NEWS is great it gives you a different perspective vs CNN, ABC, NBC all have the same agenda.  Watch one and you get the same news.  For years I have places to turn the station off, since most of the have CNN on.

I do not know who the driver is behind the turn off fox news is, but they have an agenda to keep you in the dark and sell thier agenda.  All people need to hear, read all sides of the issue and you make your choice.  DO NOT LET SOMEONE GUIDE YOU, YOU NEED TO DO YOUR OWN GUIDING. 

Read your history, what you see today is what happen in Germany.

How I stopped Fox in my house

I put in a parental lock on Fox.  Now when I channel surf Fox does not display unless I figure out how to enter that special code.
