FOX Fraught with Fraud Again: Covering Palin, They Claim Current Footage, Air Some from Last Year
BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
by Jeffrey Joseph
How long can FOX go without blatantly lying about the footage it displays on TV? It seems going a little over a week would have been pushing it. Not long after Sean Hannity had to accept the sting of Jon Stewart calling him out for inflating the attendance of a health-care protest by using footage from a few months ago, another FOX broadcaster was caught with footage not quite what he claimed it to be.
FOX attempted to cover a Palin book signing in Michigan, and Gregg Jarrett, a member of FOX's alleged straight-news team, describes the video played as "just coming into us" when it pretty clearly had nothing to do with a book signing and everything to do with a campaign appearance from last year. Once again, FOX had been caught telling lies on TV.
Strangely enough, FOX did not need to use false footage to inflate the impression of attendance at Palin's signing. Palin did draw in a crowd of around 1,500 people, an ample amount for any kind of live coverage to display. So why did FOX take the unnecessary risk, one that they claim would eventually precipitate disciplinary action? Other news organizations capably covered the signing, almost lending credence to FOX's excuse that it was merely a "production error." Of course, after viewing some of the actual video from the book signing, the rationale behind using archived footage rather live video becomes apparent--they must have been too afraid to put actual Palin followers on TV for fear of displaying their ignorance on the issues.
FOX once again illustrates how far it will go to further its conservative cause, even when that requires blatantly lying or sheltering its adherents from its own lens for fear of embarrassing themselves. Anyone watching for the next salient break in integrity from FOX probably will not need to wait another full week. For everyone else, it would just be best to go ahead and Turn Off FOX.
