Rep. Jan Schakowsky: Nothing But A Robust Public Option

BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement expressing her unequivocal support for a robust public health insurance plan. Rep. Schakowsky, a member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee has been a strong voice in support of such a plan.

"Many Members of Congress -- including myself -- will not support a health insurance reform bill that does not break the strangle hold of private insurance companies on our health care system. That requires that consumers have a choice of a robust public health insurance plan. I will support nothing short of a robust public health insurance plan upon implementation, no triggers. I believe Congress will pass and the President will sign such a bill this Fall."

BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

Public Option

Nothing short of a single payer plan will work. It must be strongly supported. No waffling.

Obama caves

Or does he? His speech to the joint session of Congress had better be one demanding a public option or single-payer universal health care (HR 676), or he's going to have a lot of people pissed off, and the rethugs may just regain control of the House and the Senate in 2010. This is the REAL nigntmare scenario, in my mind.

Obama is losing my support (and that of many other liberals)

I'm gradually losing any confidence in Obama that I had in large measure a year ago.

He has not been at all clear in his support of the health care "public option." (if indeed he even IS committed to it).

He has cozied up to the conservative Republicans and the blue-dogs in his own party.

He has expanded the senseless war in Afghanistan.

He has been equivocal on habeas corpus, rendition and unconstitutional spying on citizens.

He has not been at all vigorous in investigating the many well-known crimes of the Bush administration, thereby making it inevitable that such crimes, and worse will be committed with impunity in the future.

With regard to crimes against humanity one can not sweep them under the rug by "LOOKING FORWARD, NOT BACK!"

"Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you accept atrocities." - Voltaire

Too much babbling

But where is the consistent and vocal support for a reasonable public option from the White House?  It's been a Tower of Babble instead with spokespeople like Emanuel and Sebelius waffling away on the topic, with WH voices playing damage control in a very lame manner behind them. Sorry, but given the lack of endorsement and consistency from the Obama administration, I'm not expecting much more than a triggered public option, though I would be happy to be wrong. I think the only reason there is going to be one is because over 75% percent of Americans want it, and there would be a voting backlash 2010 and beyond if one isn't included.  And what better way could there be to appease all the conflicting voices?

Now why can't Obama say that?

Oh, that's right. Obama is owned by the upper 1% plutocracy.

NOT!!!!!! Here is NPR Yesterday!

"Even liberal Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois says that while a robust public option must be in the initial House bill, it's not a make-or-break issue for her final vote.

"Even insured Americans can't get health care," she said. "So, yes, the public option is very important; it's important to our base. But so is the assurance that they're going to have health care when they need it.""  http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112502202

NOT! NOT!!!

NPR is using an out dated quote mixed with a current quote to make it appear that she won't support the public option, and you are assisting them in spreading false information.

Stop trying to make her look like a liar.
