No wonder he works for the New York Post: Creep-for-hire Sean Delonas has a history of bigotry

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
by Meg White

Our Media Putz today is the New York Post for publishing Sean Delonas' tastelessly racist cartoon attacking President Barack Obama. They crossed the line with that cartoon, but it's important to note that this is not the first time on the other side of tactfulness for either the institution or the artist.

St. Petersburg Times Media Critic Eric Deggans said on National Public Radio yesterday that he was troubled not only by the content of the cartoon, but the context in which it appears:

"This is a newspaper that has had a long history of tangled and troubled racial relations," he said.

Not only is the New York Post a troublesome place for this terrible 'toon to come from, but the pen of Sean Delonas is one that has been guided by bigotry in the past.

As the GLBT advocacy group GLAAD has noted, Delonas has created several cartoons in the recent past that display his intolerance. He has a history of equating gay men with bestiality and cross dressers. He frequently demonstrates hatred for anyone with a lifestyle that is different than his own. Delonas seems obsessed with attacking gay figures such as actor George Takei and New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey.

But that's not all. Delonas is a hater on many levels, with unfunny sketches revealing his hatred of women, Muslims, Democrats, black leaders... you name it! Check out this collection of Delonas' ten most hateful cartoons, as determined by Gawker.

As a side note, one of our readers requested information about Delonas the man. His Web site has been down pretty much since the controversy began, but I can direct you to this creepy picture of him at a children's bookstore on Daily Kos. You're welcome.

NY Post apologizes -- sort of

Credit Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Post is apologizing for a cartoon that critics say links President Barack Obama to a raging chimpanzee shot dead by police in Connecticut. But the newspaper also says the image was exploited by its longtime antagonists. After two days of protests, the paper posted an editorial on its Web site Thursday saying the cartoon was meant to mock the federal economic stimulus bill, but "to those who were offended by the image, we apologize." The editorial also says some people who have long-standing differences with the paper saw the cartoon "as an opportunity for payback." The editorial calls them "opportunists" and says: "To them, no apology is due." The drawing was published Wednesday. It shows a dead chimp, with the caption reading: "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill." ____________________________________________________________________ "The editorial also says some people who have long-standing differences with the paper saw the cartoon "as an opportunity for payback." Note to the NY Post: I guess decent people do have long-standing differences with hypocrisy, hate and bigotry reporting styles. And 'opportunist' is a poor definition of people who justifiably take issue with KKK styles of subject matter. Stop stirring the pot and underminding your country and its people.

Sick of CNN and similar media types

As an African-American, it infuriates me to tune into CNN ( that so-called bastion of the liberal media)and watch them cart out unknown blacks to speak favorably about negative portrayals of other African-Americans. The latest unknown (black) used to refute the horrific cartoon which appeared in the New York Post was a book peddler by the name of Richard Ford. (He was given a seemingly long period of time on CNN without anyone to counter-balance his views.) In my community we call men like this "Uncle Tom". That cartoon was obviously aimed at President Obama and there was no excuse for it. I expect tactics like this of Fox, but CNN should be ashamed.

Re: Sick of CNN and similar media types"...

What happened to freedom of speech and inteligent tolerance to diverse views???

Re: Sick of CNN and similar media types"...

There are black people who make a living providing cover for the use of racism by the Republican party. These people are not motivated to speak out for any reason other than money. They are their own individual think tanks bought and paid for by those who use racism to to maintain and acquire political power.

This cartoon places the NY

This cartoon places the NY Post one notch below Hustler. This cartoon was vulgar, outrageous, and unbelievable that a publisher would put it in print. Something needs to be done.

You do Hustler an injustice.

Hustler features material of erotic nature but questionable taste; the Post features obscenities.

Really! HUSTLER At Least Believes in The US Consitution

unlike Enemy Combatant Rupert Murdoch, or anybody who works for him....

You bet.

Larry Flynt has done more to protect the Constitution than all Republicans combined. But he does have pretty awful taste. I ran into him once; he has a gold-plated wheelchair! How low level is that?

welll it wasent about obama

welll it wasent about obama but you on the left can t figure that out

Hmmmmmm

At least "us on the left" can usually spell and use appropriate punctuation. Jeez. Go take an English class!

It wasent???

Dude, you can't even spell. Or is it spelll??

Those of you still in denial about who that cartoon was directed at need to pull you heads out of your collective ass. If it wasn't about Obama then why wasn't there some sort of notation on the monkey, like "Congress" or something, that would've clarified it? They would have done that with any other cartoon to avoid this sort of thing, but the psychos at the Post thought they could slip this one by us.

It's not a left-right thing dummy. If you can't see that, then I suggest you come to my home city and see how the black people you meet feel about being called monkeys.

YES, it was!

You either tolerate or ignore, which is sad for you. Insensitivity is best used to describe you and the idiot right. I think all of you got your training at the dinner table when you were young. That's also called breeding the same.

I know exactly what you are saying

I am always asking, "where the hell do they find these guys?" I guess it's considered "fair and balanced." 90+% of the black community voted for Obama, but CNN just "HAS" to portay it like it was 50/50. It's the same failed reasoning that portrays a lie as equal to the truth just so no one can be accused of being "biased". I can honestly say that I don't think I ever known an African American that would find this reprehensible cartoon amusing in the least. Personally I have nothing but disdain for anyone, regardless of color, who finds anything of value in this cartoon.

Painting a Portrait

Thanks for the info. I used some of the info to google my way to the children's book supposedly co written by Ryan Delonas and Sean Delonas, the father. Around the time the book 'Scuttle's Big Wish' was written, Sean Delonas'son Ryan was very young. I found the following review of the book at NewsMax. Imagine that! 'Scuttle's Big Wish' Underscores Perils of Greed Joan Swirsky Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006 Book Review: "Scuttle's Big Wish," by Sean and Ryan Delonas. Regan Books. 40 pages, $16.95. When Ryan Delonas was 3 years old, his parents were going through bitter divorce proceedings and he only saw his father on weekends. Mostly he stayed in touch with his dad by phone, regaling him with fanciful stories. In turn, his father read him enchanting children's classics, hoping they would further ignite an imagination that was already apparent. While Ryan loved "Treasure Island" and "Where The Wild Things Are," he was particularly taken with the story of King Midas. The ancient legend tells of the Greek god Dionysus, who became worried when his foster father got drunk and wandered off... continue to the link: http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2006/11/9/103601.shtml _________________________________________________________________ The info is sketchy but reveals that Sean Delonas and his wife were going through a bitter divorce. Compiled with other data, it sounds as if Sean Delonas is more of a free lancer than a steady, well rooted artist. Speculatively, it sounds like he goes from Political Cartoons to writing a children's book to make a a few bucks. How much work is attributed to his son is questionable. Perhaps Delonas is an opportunist. Could his hatred of women be resultive of his bitter divorce? And did it sour him on all humankind? Little tidbits here and there begin to paint a picture of Delonas. It sure seems there should be more rocks to look under explaining the temperment of this distorted mind. Or it could be that he is just a typical republican ... hypocritical, judgmental and full of hatred.

Sadly, No

did a hilarious "flip" (using the other side's statement against it) of the cartoon. Sorry I don't know how to provide a link but it should be easy to find.
