As Obama hits foreign soil today in Canada, where else should he go with his passport?
A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
by Chad Rubel
President Obama is making his first trip to foreign soil, meeting in Canada to talk with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Liberal Party Leader Michael Ignatieff in Ottawa. Obama is fulfilling the modern presidential requirement (with one grand exception) of making our largest trading partner the first foreign trip.
The last guy made less than 50 trips to more than 70 countries in eight years. And for him, that sounds like a lot, given that some of those trips were G-8 type trips where U.S. participation was highly recommended.
For the White House, intellectual curiosity about the world around us took a 8-year vacation, but it's back. And while President Obama should make his continued domestic trips a priority, he should also stretch his legs and see the world.
It's true that some destinations might require negotiations (Iran, Cuba). And going to Spain might be smart, if for nothing else, but to apologize for John McCain's ramblings and not knowing where the country is.
Or he could go to Brazil and talk sugar-based ethanol as an energy alternative to our corn-based variety.
On Tuesday, we focused more on where Obama should go domestically. But today, we would like to know where Obama can use his passport and travel internationally.
So wave your passport in the air and tell us where Obama should travel to on Air Force One. Bon Voyage!!
