Have we reached the end of Senator Roland Burris' short career?

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
by Chad Rubel

Keith Olbermann intimated last night that perhaps Roland Burris will have the shortest Senate stint in history, outside of death or some other encumbrance.

Burris was sworn in on January 15, 2009, and 32 days later, we have serious allegations of perjury. This is bad in itself but the perjury allegations center around whether he had contact with those close to now former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Then we have today's announcement that Burris now acknowledges his attempted fundraising effort for Blagojevich.

Burris is asked specifically about this before the Illinois House. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Majority Whip Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) made Burris' seating in the Senate contingent on telling the truth before the Illinois House.

From what we've seen, this did not happen. The fact that the second affidavit was filed February 4, weeks after his testimony and seating in the Senate, doesn't look good.

We would like to think democracy can survive a lot of scenarios, including this sad case. But at some point, we have to ask: what is best for the people of the state of Illinois? For democracy? The U.S. Senate? Even the Democratic Party?

The Senate leadership has been patient with the Minnesota scenario, even though clearly Al Franken is the winner. Yet the rush to seat Roland Burris has been costly to all parties involved.

Though the Senate could have waited until Pat Quinn picked a legitimate successor, instead the pressure to have a special election is increasing.

Should Roland Burris resign? Should Pat Quinn pick a replacement? Or are you one who believes in a special election to fill a seat for another 21 months? Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

He should go,...

...but he should never have gotten to the Senate in the first place. And I wonder how long it will take to get sitting Senators in good standing from ALL the states.

Burris

Burris' antics are being investigated by the Illinois Senate and the U.S. Senate. He deserves his "day in court". If he is found guilty, I would like to see Gov. Quinn appoint his replacement. I trust Pat Quinn. To do this by a general election would cost tens of millions of dollars of taxpayers money which we cannot afford, with our financial crisis of a $9 billion budget deficit inherited from Blago.

He should go.

Is this even debatable?

Burris Really Is His Own SNL Lampoon, Isn't He?

I had vaguely hoped, once he was finally seated, that Roland Burris would at least stop being a punchline and a distraction any longer - but clearly, my hopes were in vain. ::groan::

I suspect that even as we speak, SNL's Abby Elliott is dusting off her Rachel Maddow Assistant Principal suit, as Keenan Thompson practices his oleagenous Burris impersonation....

I have tried to call

I have tried to call Hannity, Limpbaugh and O'Wrongly a number of time. The screeners make sure I never get on the air. I made it one time by faking my name. Unfortunatly all the programs have a 7-10 second delay. I'm convinced that all those "ditto-heads" consist of few knuckle dragging fools who keep calling in just to antagonize the liberals.

Bye, Roland.

I'm a liberal Dem living in Illinois, with one narcisstic governor down & one lying, blatant egotist to go. Gov. Quinn should appoint someone after Burris is gone-the sooner the better. A special election is the last thing we need. Even with Al of MN joining the other 56 Senate Dems & 2 Independents by April, we remain one vote short of 60. Since spineless Reid doesn't want his Bubble Country Club GOP buddies to actually stand-up & filibuster, we are forced to gain a GOP vote. An Illinois special election would cost money the state doesn't have, would remove an essential Dem vote for quite sometime and might allow a Repug to win-a disaster!

Burris

OH LET HIM STAY, HE'LL FIT RIGHT IN WITH THE R'S !
