Time to Play "Name That Stimulus Bill!"

...in an emotionally appealing name is illusory. This stimulus - growth spending is what it is. A new name is not going to make light bulbs go off in the head of anyone who cannot already comprehend the reasons for it.

Better to attempt educating the masses than following in the footsteps of George Bush (Clean air act) and the former Soviet Union (workers paradise) it might be good to promote a common understanding of what is being attempted so that the ignorance about it can no longer be exploited by the GOP.

The name is important only as a palliative substitute for meaning.

Americans are already awash in a deluge of marketing campaigns so there's no need to get too smart for our own good by providing a glitzy pacifier for the ignorant, as opposed to a primer.

i think many progressives have fallen prey to Limbaugh lies.Some progressives also want Obama and his programs to fail.Maybe you will get your way and you wont have your tantrums for a while till something else comes along.I dont listen to Limbaugh.i dont need his tantrums either. nor Hannity either.I hope the Bill passes. I would name it Help America With Jobs,altho some disgruntled ones in here dont think jobs will be created.they call it pork.where were you during the Bush fiasco when the Rethugs had their pork barrell nincompup projects going? like giving the most wealthy a tax break,off shore drilling,etc.Rethugs has their pork.they wanted to do away with the middle class. ...altho,basically Rethugs take away and Dems and Progressives tend to give.Some of you are saying, "what's in it for me?" there's the me,my 4 and no more crowd. We, the people, are supposed to be the govt.we are supposed to be a govt of the people,by the people and for the people.so if Obama's plans fails it will be because you wanted to and didnt support it.. your attitude was "what's in it for me and mine?" Why did you liberal progressive Dems vote for Obama anyway if you are turning against him in the first 30 days? Give his plans a chance to work. I doubt any of you could do any damn better than he is..if so, why didnt you run for his office? you sure got quiet then !! ...is the term Bernie Sanders reportedly used on Thom Hartmann recently (as I was reminded by my audio engineer after complaining this morning that I was tired of waiting for Obama's team to capture message control). I'm not name dropping, just outing myself as an ass b/c Action Point (my radio program on 1190 NovaM and elsewhere) practically REVOLVES on trying to indoctrinate willing listeners to the wisdom of how to "Win Not Whine" through tactics like (duh) framing. My only excuse has been waiting for the Obama team to actually capture the frame. That would be the same team that so brilliantly devised the campaign language creaming all his opponents in the race to the WH. What were (are) they thinking to let the message get away from them? Could there be any GOOD reason?! Just wondering... My solution as of this morning is to convert Pork to Bacon! Of course simply calling it the Jobs Bill forces those who don't agree to explain how it is NOT a jobs bill and shifts it from defense to offense ("If you're explaining you're losing" means something)! Just be careful not to lose the advantage. If a tricky reframer responds with what YOU should (denying the precedent and then reframing, or what I call the Lakoff Reframe) grab it back. It's also a good idea to know how to discuss the government as a job creator. Simple example: any military base in your area. That fool Michael Steele should have his brain rinsed out with pork grease for his ludicrous (not to mention ungrateful) lie that government has never created a job. Wasn't he employed by the government? This comment: "When that government contract runs out, that job goes away...And those two to four million jobs that are projected won't happen. Trust me." is utter crap!! THEY CAN ALL GO AWAY-- just ask someone who recently lost theirs! Only difference is that the government can create not-for-profit business (that's why it's called the public sector) to employ people and enrich us all-- not itself!

Look past the well-funded corporate astroturf campaigns. Reluctantly disavow the tiny fraction of the stimulus bill that will trickle down to working Americans.

The stimulus bill is aimed at corporate CEO's instead of Wall Street gamblers but it does very little to help Main Street. Yet we have to pay for it - the whole thing. We're very much better off without it.

Buzzflash readers have offered plenty of suggestions for what a real stimulus bill would look like. No pork. No tax cuts. Increased unemployment benefits. A 50% federal subsidy on non-luxury food items. Some help to education and some expansion of medicaid.

Green jobs can be created with a federal subsidy on consumer-level green purchases such as solar panels, insulation, and washing machines. Massive national "green" projects would only funnel billions of dollars into CEO's pockets. The projects would quickly run over budget, resulting in demands for another raid on the treasury but creating very few real jobs.

And let's spend some stimulus dollars on prosecutors for fat-cat crimes. We can't solve the crisis until we end the criminal behavior that caused it.
