Improved White House education standards: Obama knew when Chief Justice Roberts flubbed
A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
by Chad Rubel
You wait for the big moment: you are about to be sworn in as President of the United States. But it takes two to swear-in a president: the president-elect and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Someone screwed up and it wasn't Barack Obama.
The oath goes: "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States."
Chief Justice John Roberts messed up the line, saying "execute the office of President to the United States faithfully." (Yes, he also used the wrong preposition. Why couldn't he have had notes?)
English language teachers cringed nationwide: adverbs must directly modify verbs.
But in a true shift of education standards, Obama knew Roberts made a mistake. Unfortunately, Obama repeated the words as Roberts said them. But having a president who knows grammar is a sharp improvement over "Is our children learning?"

Chief Justice Roberts' Brain Flatus
This Bushie buffoon owes the nation an apology. His court decisions have been and will continue to be of questionable bias and integrity, but yesterday’s gaff epitomizes either the towering of his ineptitude or the extreme unconscious mental discomfort he was experiencing in conducting the ceremony for someone he considers an “inferior”. The most significant presidential oath-taking ceremony since the oath was taken by the slave owning George Washington in 1789, and this turkey blew it in front of the entire world!
I suppose it is only fitting that the Bush Administration, an embarrassingly abysmal failure from its inception, continue to be so up to its pathetically sickeningly, cringing-producing, final seconds.
On the other hand, surely it couldn't be that Roberts was "preoccupied" with the thought that Obama was one of 22 senators who voted against his confirmation?
I'm just askin, ya know?

Wasn't more missing from the oath?
Different Oaths for V.P. and President
The Presidential oath is extremely short - not nearly as specific as that taken by the Vice President. Although Roberts did screw it up.
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Note that the oath does not contain "...So help me God."
The Vice Presidential oath is much longer:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
Just as you did, I thought Roberts had totally farked up the presidential oath. The glitch was less than actually leaving out words. He did screw up though and also put the "faithfully" at the end.
Just to be on the safe side Robert's did administer the oath again to Obama about 7:30 PM last night.
However, think about this, at the most significant oath taking ceremony in this country's history since the oath was taken by the slave owning George Washington in 1789, Roberts "blows it"! He owes the nation an apology. Millions of people around the globe people saw Roberts' fark up! Put his picture up next to Red Sox Bill Buckner's .
Is it possible that this right wing slug was "preoccupied" remembering that the man he was swearing in as president was one of 22 senators who voted against his confirmation?

Hey! Hey! Hey!
Good-Bye!
Fair enough, however
Yes, we did put this up quickly. But we knew the right-wing would put up their own spin (It's Obama's fault). If it was Obama's fault, we would have reported it. But it wasn't.
And it did give us a chance to point out that the last president's sense of grammar and English was atrocious, and this one, right off the bat, has a better sense already than the previous occupant for 8 years.
Don't be so sure...
...that they won't still try to make some pathetic hay over this. I'm waiting for that Nazi cherub Glenn Beck or the clueless morons on "Fox and Friends" to put out the claim that Obama is not president because the oath was not uttered to perfection, despite who's fault it was.
