John McCain and his "invention" of the BlackBerry: the device comes from Canada

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
by Chad Rubel

We have been reading all morning about John McCain domestic policy adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin giving credit to McCain for the invention of the BlackBerry.

"He did this," Holtz-Eakin said, holding up his BlackBerry. "Telecommunications in the United States, the premiere innovation in the past 15 years comes right through the Commerce Committee. So you're looking at the miracle that John McCain helped create. And that's what he did."

Let's start with the obvious: BlackBerry was developed by Research in Motion in Waterloo in Southern Ontario in Canada. Yes, BlackBerry is Canadian, eh.

Also, McCain has shown that much interest in technology. And when given a chance to vote for it, well the support hasn't been there.

When you own 8-10 houses, your wife wears $300,000 outfits to the party's convention, and you think the fundamentals of the economy are strong, there are things you may not understand. No offense (or offence) to Canadians, but American workers care about jobs in America.

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

True bias on display

The irony is that you've shown your open bias by your unwillingness to acknowledge the hyperbole used by the McCain camp in the political arena. While I will admit that it was an assertion that, while it may be true, would be intentionally misconstrued by people who are looking for "stones to throw." What is the "truth"? That during the last 15 years, John McCain served on the committee that oversaw the burgeoning development of communications. Unfortunately, your interest isn't truth... but propaganda. (ignoring your typo) Oh, by the way... as to the "8-10" houses comment (should you ever decide to check the facts), the number is 8, which includes investments in condominiums by companies that Cindy McCain is involved with. Financial success isn't something to eschew. The problem with some people is that they want to "harvest that success" and spread it in a communistic/socialist way to others in order to secure power for themselves and to "buy" votes.

Did he actually imply that?

Didn't Holtz-Eakin imply that govt action can have a positive effect on technology and business? Doesn't that make him a liberal?

It's WORSE Than the Gore "I Invented the Internet" Meme

Gore could at least lay claim (as he did) to fostering, in an economic and legislative sense, the development of the technologies that ultimately became the Internet (paraphrased from snopes.com). Unless McCain pushed into law legislation that sent mobile platform technology to Canada, or invested heavily in a Canadian tech corporation (RIM) instead of a US one, then he had zip to do w/the Blackberry.

Well, I suppose he could still use "America First!" as his campaign slogan - though I don't think his base will be too happy to hear WHICH "America" he's talking about....

Congradulations to inventor McCain
