DNC Challenges Upcoming FEC Decision on McCain Matching Funds Use

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
by Amy Weiss

In a conference call Wednesday, Democratic National Committee (DNC) General Counsel Joe Sandler said the DNC is urging the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to fully investigate Sen. John McCain's withdrawal from public financing during the primary. Sandler claims McCain never made the request to withdraw, and shouldn't have been allowed to if he did.

The FEC is meeting Thursday to vote to release McCain from the "matching funds" program. Sandler said they should strike that vote and initiate a complete investigation, per normal procedure, as to whether McCain used the matching funds as collateral for a loan and whether he violated the procedure for withdrawal.

Sandler said the FEC should be able to complete such an investigation before Election Day and thinks the public should know if McCain violated campaign finance laws. He also said if McCain is charged with breaking the law, it would be one of the most substantial violations in FEC history.

In a memo released last week in preparation for Thursday's meeting, FEC lawyers said that McCain's withdrawal from the matching funds program was legitimate.

The DNC said this was an example of McCain thinking "the rules apply to everybody but himself," and it questions his integrity and highlights his hypocrisy.

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

Yawn

Nothing is going to happen. The only agency in DC that investigates less than the Congressional ethics committees is the FEC.

mcCmoron = Dumb ass dubya

mccmoron in all his glory in this youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WakO3mtzEg

Such a wonderful group of people

It is thoroughly wonderful that my decision eight years ago to withdraw from the Democratic party (after having voted a straight ticket previously) is validated so well. "McMoron" is such an intelligent and well thought out comment. When you don't have facts on your side, go for personal insult.

wonderful decision

McCain has never been one to let facts, or the law for that matter, to get in his way. Ask his friend Charles Keating. Big John was one of the Keating Five after all.The facts are John McCain did violate the law on this issue.True it is only election law,your vote and mine but what is that worth? As for you voting a straight Democratric ticket,highly suspect to say the least.As for your leaving the party ,glad to see you go. America doesn't need more people who believe in the two sets of laws theory,we need people who will obey the law and the choices they make when it comes to financing their campaigns.BTW,a little research would do wonders for your view of McCain and what he says and what he does. Bye bye now.Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
