House Offers Monica Goodling Immunity to Compel her Testimony on U.S. Attorney Scandal
A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
The House Judiciary Committee has authorized an offer of immunity to compel testimony of former Justice Department-White House Liaison Monica Goodling, a key player in the U.S. Attorney scandal. The deal would legally prevent her from taking the Fifth before a Committee hearing as she has threatened.
32 members of the Committee brought the vote over the two-thirds threshold required by law; six voted against it and two were not present. A Democratic source told BuzzFlash that Goodling could still reject the deal, but "it would look terrible" since she would be legally protected from prosecution for anything (truthful) she says.
Her only possible motive for refusing to testify now would be to protect top officials who she has essentially admitted engaged in illegal activities when she threatened to take the Fifth in the first place.
Judiciary Chairman John Conyers assured the Committee that he did "not propose this step lightly," but that they have "exhausted all reasonable efforts to obtain Ms. Goodling's critical information short of providing her with limited use immunity." He also stressed that the immunity protection "does not take effect unless we use it to compel testimony from Ms. Goodling over her Fifth Amendment assertion" so she is still fair game until she actually testifies.
As unfortunate as it would be for Monica Goodling to escape justice for her actions, she has already resigned from her post. There remain bigger fish to fry that are still swimming in the Bush Administration cesspool.

Poor little Monica
She's probably wondering why none of her righteous heroes are coming to her rescue.
And if she has done things that are not legal or if she goes on the stand and lies, she knows in her little christian heart that she can kiss her promised seat in heaven goodbye.
They teach 'em real good at Pat Robertson's school don't they?
She will and she won't: i.e., Monica testify and tell the truth
Monica Goodling will testify under immunity, but she won't tell the truth about Bush and Cheney and the other gods in her theosphere. Isn't this the Ollie North scenario?
But what IF she's found to have perjured herself (a gamble)? The worst she'd get is a few months of vacation in the softest of Alberto Gonzales' federal women's colonies, her sentence cut short by a parting-shot Bush presidential pardon, followed by a lot of cash, a sinecure job somewhere in the Right Wing earthly heaven, and oodles of undying Neocon love.

She won't do it....
...She's a good little Christofascist. No matter, her refusal will be even worse than her cooperation. I think we can close debate at this point on who the absolute worst president is.
Yes, she will...
If she should force the committee to subpoena her presence, all bets are off. The Bush Bozos will be more than happy to cut her loose if there's even a chance to save the "big guns". I'd be shocked beyond belief if her lawyer didn't advise her to take the deal. She's too young to go to prison for political and/or religious principles. And if she takes the 5th all through her testimony, this will definitely open the doors to compelling Rove & Co. to testify. The repubs would HAVE to go along. As long as it's just her, there's lots of room for damage control on the testimony of this "kid".
Yes, she will
One can only hope she was told that if she takes the Fifth, all bets are off and that she'll be prosecuted and probably go to jail. Same goes for perjury. If she lies, I think it'd be detected in an instant. The people who will be grilling her are no fools, and in no mood for flim-flams.
No, she really won't.
She's a true believer, born and raised on right-wing cultism. She'll refuse the deal, and when compelled she will "forget" everything she knows; Gonzo has already shown how it's done. We'll see the "big bad democrats bullying a sweet tearful and patriotic (gag me) public servant who's trying her best", or something like that. The repubs and their media will rally around her, screaming about her persecution by the "witch-hunting" democrats. But she won't be able to recall anything. She'll be bullied into this strategy because bushco at this point can't afford even the testimony of a lowly underling in this political climate. They have a zillion ways of ruining her with documentation, not covered by the grant of immunity, and they'll let her know it.
