Key Scenes of ABC's "The Path to 9/11" Shot in Canada, Including WTC Attack

All the fuss over ABC's miniseries The Path to 9/11 has been over its factual inaccuracies blaming Bill Clinton for the terrorist attacks. But there is another big problem with the movie: most of the shooting was exported to Canada to save money, diverting millions of dollars from the American economy. The following is a picture of actors reenacting the collapse of the World Trade Center - in downtown Toronto:

One seemingly innocuous review includes the following account:

"The fascinating footage of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Sudan was actually shot in Morocco; most of the rest of the film was shot in Toronto, with some scenes shot in Washington and New York."

Sure enough, Canada.com was all too happy to report that "Toronto plays a role in 9/11 miniseries," and also mentioned that "Much of the miniseries was filmed in and around Toronto."

Yes, it turns out that the American Broadcast Company outsourced their portrayal of one the most tragic events in our history.

There is nothing wrong with getting realistic Middle Eastern footage from Morocco instead of the more dangerous countries depicted, and there is certainly nothing wrong with the great nation of Canada. But there is no excuse for not filming scenes of America in America, especially of the World Trade Center attack itself.

ABC is following the growing trend of "runaway production" in which U.S. movies are sent abroad for cheap. To get a bigger share of the vast amounts of money spent by movie studios on supplies, actors, hotels, catering, and other things, Canada has provided production tax subsidies since 1998. In the last five years, this exodus has siphoned away $23 billion from the American economy.

ABC's lack of patriotism is certainly interesting considering the obvious flag-waving, right-wing bias of their miniseries. While it's unclear just how little production took place domestically, it is certain that more of ABC's roughly $40 million budget could have been directed to the places and people most affected by the attacks portrayed in the movie.

Instead, ABC decided to exploit 9/11 for its own personal gain, just like the Bush Administration. The miniseries is a lie inside and out.

This is funny. Why should anyone be surprised? The media is an arm of the government, and 'entertainment products' are usually made with an eye to the common delusion. This one is particularly faithful. I moved to Canada two years ago (because I had the chance). Sure, American policy affects us. But living here is still better. The noise of the media is less, too. Filming this movie in Canada is certainly ironic but it's not worth a Buzzflash headline in my mailbox. The economic reality is that Toronto offers filmmakers such lucrative financial incentives that New York was put out of business until Mayor Bloomberg re-introduced rescinded tax breaks for film & television productions. And even now, the NY economy still hasn't recovered from the blow. Ranting about the fact that the AMERICAN Broadcast Company manufactured its product outside America just gives everyone outside The Left an excuse to deem us a bunch of rabid fanatics. Fodder AGAINST The Left?

This takes the political equation away. Had it been a weekday, and Lou Dobbs had found out in time, it would have surely been on his show. I think many Americans, regardless of political persuation, would think that, yeah, while runaway production happens all the time, perhaps THIS should have been done in America. As it stands right now, ABC et al is trying to dismiss it as a bunch of partisan noise.

If ABC (Always Brodcasts Crap) insists on airing the right-wing hit piece this weekend, I will watch every minute with pen and paper in hand and make a note of every sponsor. I urge everyone else to do the same and then stop buying their products and tell each company why you made your choice.

about ABC 911 perfidy... Why do you stupid Americans put up with this shit? Go to ABC headquarters, trash the place. Go to your local mall, the disney store, trash the place. You know a local abc affiliate, go trash the place. OK, you may be arrested and jailed... ain't that the price of freedom? you're close to Anaheim or in FLA... trash the place. Throw rocks on anyone entering the parks. What's wrong with you Americans, always lecturing others about freedom, have you yourselves got what it takes to defend it? When are you gonna realize your vote and all that crap are outdated "quaint" concepts. Don't you see everything accelerating? NO American is going to take kindly to the idea of the WTC disasters being filmed in Toronto, to the tune of $$$ lost going to NYC & DC, let alone America. Find another issue that could actually shut this down production by noon tomorrow, due to sheer embarrassment, and I'd love to go with it. This is a public relations disaster just waiting to happen, and it's OUR OWN FAULT if it doesn't.

The Tipping Point

It's arrived, the point of saturation which drowns one idea or another. Now, it's either you believe the official conspiracy theory or you accept the possiblity that there could be a different explanation. By that I mean Osama Bin Laden is a suspect but he might not have acted alone; or even some other group might be responsible, a different set of conspirators responsible for enhancing, enabling, or directing the murderous acts of 911. Certainly the government could be suspect, but the US government is large and pinning the crime on such an institution is ridiculious, impossible, silly. It'd be wasted prosecution, unjust. But if you consider the plausability that a faction from the government, say the small and potent neocons, they could be a suspect set of conspirators. They are not the only suspect group. In fact, there are many factions and lobbies of influence over our large US government, and any one of them is suspect until proven otherwise with a proper investigation. Other likely suspects could be corporate groups. Corporate groups with operating capital larger than economies of many first world nations. Groups like the Carlyle Group, certainly they could be suspect. There could even be foreign governments ultimately guilty of the mass murder on 911. One thing for sure is the magnitude of 911 demands a major independent investigation, and this is the time to decide, the tipping point. Either it was nineteen angry guys in a cave halfway around the world who managed to have a multiple direct hits at the WTC towers and, more so, manage strike the most costly and defensible spot on the planet, the Pentagon (and they did it with boxcutters); or, you believe something else could have happened on 911. Where do you stand?

I can see 19 guys sitting around the mosque , when one says, "Those damned Americans have too much freedom, lets get some planes and crash them into their biggest buildings , and , oh yes the Pentagon and kill ourselves" By Allah , that will teach them they can't be going around being free like that. I just hate their freedom. The Pentagon , however, has an automatic missile defense system. Someone had to shut it down for the attack to take place. That limits the possible suspects a bit. The three WTC building were brought down by controlled demolition. That limits it a bit more. ( You may ask, whom am I going to believe, the government or my own eyes ? I believe my own eyes. The Emperor is naked ) It doesn't take more than a highschool physics class to know about free fall speed, and how there cannot be a free fall if there is resistance. Those hundred plus floors must have presented quite a bit of resistance. Doesn't one have to question the idea that the President did not want to have an investigation of the biggest terrrorist act to take place on American soil? That is peculiar , to say the least. There is so much , much more, but that is enough for me to know , that someone, somewhere in our government had a hand in the WTC attack. If not THE hand. Oh yes , and for those who say it was too big to keep quiet. Check out how our government handeled the Atomic bombs in Japan. Reporters were not allowed in. Two sneaked in ( one American and one Australian) and wrote about a mysterious illness (radiation sickness)that they saw everywhere , and our government confiscated the American reporters story, denied that there was any sickness and hired a reporter named Lawrence on the New York Times to tell their version of the story and refute the idea of any illness caused by Atomic bombs. Then for years any Japanese who survived the bomb was jailed if he spoke about it. It is all out in the open now. 60 years later. Are we going to wait 60 years for the truth about 9/11?

I'm afraid I may have helped provide some of the props for the shlockudrama being shown on ABC. I was contacted in June last year by a Disney subsidiary, UHP Productions in Canada doing a project on Bin Laden/ Al Qaeda. I sold them some old Afghan prayer rugs, tea sets, and Yemeni daggers. Toronto?! Gasp! Can it be true?....you seem to forget that we are a friend of yours, not some hostile enemy state, and if your film people want to make a movie here, so what? While 9/11 is, of course, a touchy subject to one and all, there are lots of other things to be hysterical about, so lay off the foolishness about Toronto. Focus your wrath on the idiot in the White House, and all this enablers.....

and Canadians, as being opposed to the outsourcing of jobs to China makes one opposed to China as a country, or the Chinese people as a whole. Don't take it personally. The culprits are the higher ups in ABC who made the deliberate choice to film the majority in Toronto, instead of the the other way around, or here entirely. No, the people to be mad at are most certainly not Canadian in this scenario, nor should it even appear that way, they are American, at least in residence. It's also not to say that this a practice that should be banned, etc., that's a whole 'nother can of worms, it's just in this case, perhaps it would have been a little more sensitive to NYC & DC to leave the dollars there, even if it would cost more. I told this to a couple who are friends of my wife and I, both most recently from NYC, at the Ground Zero when it happened, and one of them actually Canadian. They were upset with ABC.

Bush's inability to acknowledge, accept and learn from mistakes

Wasn't it Harry Truman who adopted "The Buck Stops Here" as his modus operandi? Certainly an honorable and responsible way to navigate through life. On the other hand, based upon what America has witnessed over the past six years from the current Bush administration, a more appropo description that would best summarize his interactions with his world would be, "The Shit Starts Here (and gets passed downwind)".
