Crackpot theories from a sitting U.S. Congressman on Barack Obama

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

There are 70 days before Barack Obama becomes president of the United States, yet the craziness against him is in full wing. Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) has said Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

What does Broun base this on? The voices in his head? Apparently, this stems from a July speech from Obama where he discussed a civilian reserve corps that could handle postwar reconstruction efforts such as rebuilding infrastructure. As Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor points out, the Bush Administration endorses this idea.

Broun also said Obama will ban gun ownership. Though of course, there is nothing to actually base this on.

We love the Internet for many reasons, but this isn't one of them. It's one thing for an unknown crackpot to come up with theories not backed up by, well, anything. But having a sitting U.S. Congressman, who just won his first full term in Congress, make such venomous and inaccurate statements diminishes us all.

There's Still a Runoff in Georgia

This stuff will continue until the election is final. These are the same talking points McCain/Palin and the Republican PAC's tried to use in the national election. It didn't work there. Hopefully, it won't work in Georgia.

LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN & IT WILL SET YOU FREE!

(Sure ruined that quote!) Buzzflash News Alert, your characterization of Rep. Broun is correct. However, your information on Barak Obama's statements about a new internal national 'security force' is QUITE INCORRECT. I heard him broach and then discuss the topic at length on more than 3 occasions between February and August, 2008. In each instance it was presented as separate and distinct from the 'civilian reserve corps' concept. The civilian reserve corps is dressed up to look like a modern domestic 'Peach Corps' similar to Charlie Rangle's legislation on the subject (S 399 or HR 399). It'll be ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to maintining peace in the nation and distracting the 16-25 set from the fact that THERE WILL BE NO JOBS TILL 2010-11! Why, you ask? Because Nixon took the nation off the Gold Standard in '73 making the DOLLAR WORTHLESS & THE NATION 'BROKE'. Then, Paul Volcker, Reagan & the GOP DESTROYED the nation's Industrial and Manufacturing Base, stripped it of all its Assets and SENT OVER 17.5 MILLION JOBS GO TO CHINA, KOREA & JAPAN from 1981s TO 1993. Finally, from 2001 to the present, BUSH & HIS THIEVES PURPOSELY ran the Economy into the TOILET AS DIRECTED BY the Wealthy Old Whiteboy 1%-ERS & their Wall Street Henchmen. Two 2 PHONEY WARS & 2 PHONY, MANUFACTURED 'BUBBLES' since 2001 have caused the shift of OVER $5 TRILLION from the BOTTOM 95% TO THE TOP 5% as well as MASSIVE JOB LOSS. Since BUSH & THE WEALTHY 1%-ers TOOK OVER THE GOVT. IN 2001, they've made OVER 5.7 MILLION JOBS GO AWAY as the DEMOCRAPS SAT & WAITED FOR THEIR TURN TO FEED! POOR STUPID AMERICANS DESERVE THIS PROFOUND FINANCIAL PAIN BECAUSE ALL THEY'VE DONE THE LAST 30 YRS. IS WHIMPER & WHINE AS THE WEALTHY OLD WHITEBOYS BENT THEM OVER EVERYDAY FOR A REAL 'WORKOUT' RIGHT UP TO TODAY!

Crackpot Georgians

Every one of us needs to focus on this election on the 2nd of December in Georgia and defeat this crackpot. We need to flood Georgia with our money, our time, our thoughts, and our volunteer hours. This is serious. We NEED another Senator! Saxby Chamliss is an absolute disgrace to the Senate, no matter if you were born in the 1860's or not. To all of you: I ask: get out and give of yourselves ONE MORE TIME! Yes, we CAN!!! Do IT! Get involved in Georgia right NOW!!!!

Crackpot Georgians

I promise we're not all Crackpots in Georgia. Although he's not my district's Congressman (I hate to admit that the idiot Westmoreland IS!) We had great democratic candidates to run against Broun and Westmoreland but unfortunately, we live in difficult, republican districts. The idiots vote for a republican even if they are those Crackpots on ballot! We are working hard for Jim Martin in the December 2nd runoff. We need help! www.ga3cd.com

Georgia, huh?

Looks like Georgia is trying to outdo Oklahoma for the nutty politics award. Who's that other turd in Georgia? Oh, yeah, Saxby Chambliss, the jackoff who swiftboated a REAL war hero to swindle his Senate seat from our people. I hope the people of Georgia aren't so stupid as to put that cretin back in the Senate as a result of the runoff with his Democratic challenger, but there's this contest with Oklahoma and.....

Is Saxby Chambliss a Woman?

Just asking.

From his own website...

"He has enjoyed the freedom of practicing medicine without bureaucratic encumbrances" Does that mean he is practicing without a license? http://broun.house.gov/about.shtml

Short answer: Yes

See my post below .. "Broun cited for practicing medicine without a license in Georgia"

and to think... a REPUBLICAN FROM GEORGIA would say all that??

who'da thought.

Broun cited for practicing medicine without a license in Georgia

The right-wing fundy Rep. Paul Broun, MD, is cut of the same political cloth as the late Rep. Larry McDonald, MD (urology), the right-wing fundy Republican Congressman from Georgia who was killed in the shoot-down of KAL007 in 1983. The nutty Dr. Broun practiced "house-call only" medicine in northeast Georgia and was cited in 2006 for practicing medicine without a license.

Does that mean maybe this

Does that mean maybe this one will get killed in a shoot-down, too? Just thinkin.

I hope the Fairness Doctrine

I hope the Fairness Doctrine is reinstated. I'm all for freedom of speech but those who use it on public airways and forums have some responsibility. There are millions of people who believe the horse $hit that flows from the mouths of the Slimebaughs and Ranttities are facts, not opinions. Obama did screw up when he was talking with Sam, the son of welfare recipients, aka Joe the plumber when he mentioned spreading the wealth. Forget the fact that what he says is "Everyone who WORKS and PAYS taxes will get a tax break (earning under 250 K). These yo yos think that Obama will take money from Joe the plumber and give it to Leroy the rock head. If these idiots would read (if they can, maybe that's why talk radio is so big with the rabid right) Obamas plan, they might get a clue. He's not a Marxist or a socialist, he just wants to put our country back on track. What happened to "Respect the president"?? That only works if he's a Rep??

FREE SPEECH A MUST

You can't say "I'm all for free speech but...." Either you are, or you are not. I don't care if you agree with the talk show dudes or not. The fact is that once you allow government to silence that group. Who is going to be next? If you don't like what they are saying, turn the station.

Crackpot Congressmen and Women

Where does the Republican Party find these morons? And how is stocking the legislatures, statehouses and our courts with these haters, these pathetic ignorant anti-American fools patriotic? Week by week throughout this Presidential campaign another formerly almost invisible Republican stepped before the cameras and revealed his or her stupidity. Listening to O’Reilly, Limbaugh and Hannity everyday is not a replacement for the an education or information basic to any political officeholder. Their ongoing malevolence toward America is mindboggling

The Republic Party has truly become THE STUPID PARTY

Is there NOBODY left in the Republic Party who still plays with a full deck?

They quit playing with full deck

...when Alzheimer St. RayGun was elected. They had Manchurian candidates since.

Ever Heard of Newsmax?

Well, this is a conservative publication that I receive daily in my email. They led with this story this AM ....big headlines at the top of the page. It would be one thing if it were one man expressing his nightmares, but it's a national effort to discredit a man who was trying to find a way to expand the definition of 'service.' (I presume) Where does Bush's bringing troops home to serve on American soil fit here? Didn't I read something about that just before the election? The guise was to have a military presence in event of a national disaster. Well, we can take that at face value OR we could blow it up into something else! Posse Comitatus? Does that count for anything? Where was our Georgia friend when Habeas Corpus was jettisoned; when the Exec Branch started spying on American citizens? Amazing!

Newsmax - What a Charming Publication

Typical "front" for a Republican PAC; they even ripped off their name from an actual magazine. They published a copy of the driver's license of Muhammed Atta, one of the terrorists of 9/11, trying to link it to Obama. They're all up in arms right now about the runoff in Georgia, crying for donations. Pretty sickening stuff.

Yes I have - I too get Newsmax - what a joke that is to read.

When first I signed on to it, it was more about medicine and such, and turned negatively on Obama sometime in July 2008. We, the people of this here USA, voted for Obama - with a landslide result - there is no doubt for us that we should give credit to a lot of Republicans that voted for Obama, including Collin Powell. It is terrible that a person who is in our Congress would have said such awful things - like another reader said, Obama hasn't even been in office yet... let's see how he does before bashing. I think most white people are afraid of seeing a black man as president. I tell people around here, when they start with their stupid jokes, that Obama is half caucasian as well, that usually stops their smears. The last 8 years was enough, our country needed and desires a change of direction from what we had.

Who actually said he wanted to be a dictator? Bush

"If this were a dictatorship it'd be a heck of a lot easier just as long as I'm dictator." Washington DC Dec 19 2000 I don't recall any comments by Rep Broun at that time!

Yes I remember Bush saying that as well.

No one from the Republican party made any further comments on that remark. Wiretapping is approved by Bush, without a requiring a warrant first, have people forgotten that? That is an invasion of privacy right there, an infraction of our Constitutional rights. A columnist from a local paper stated just after Sarah Palin was nominated, that the "opposition should fold up their tents" now. As if to say, that's it, we have won the election. Well, to me that is dictatorship and socialism. Funny, when they say things like that, we should not comment? Well, it's socialism I think when he said that for sure! It's only "socialism when Republicans are referring to those that oppose their views. Do as I say, not as I do, kind of mentality.

TRUE

I agree that the republicans really screwed things up, but we still have to be careful of what lies ahead. Don't let go of the freedoms you have. Never do it.

Crackpot? I think not!

People who ignore what is going on are simply being deceived by the media and the Obama revolution. They choose to close their eyes to the harsh reality that America is at a life-altering turning point. Once we go down this road we cannot turn back. If you want CHANGE. You are now certain to get it. Our freedoms as Americans will be taken away one by one. No leader of this country should ever be placed on a pedestal as high as the one Obama is on right now, and he isn't even in office yet. People who speak out against him are being persecuted and labeled as crazy, nuts, stupid etc.. The liberals are trying to get rid of talk-radio because it is too Christian, too conservative, and sometimes anti-Obama. Where will our first amendment rights go? I say they are headed for the toilet. Based on Obama's background and associates he is someone that we should be watching carefully. That doesn't mean we should bash him, but Broun's views are not unpopular. I know many who feel uneasy with this new President elect, but they are simply too afraid to speak out. People in this country are playing with fire and they will get burned. Please pay attention to EVERYTHING going on around you and remember what this country was founded on: freedom, faith, liberty, justice, Democracy. NOT SOCIALISM OR MARXISM. If it walks like a duck it IS a duck.

If he gets watched any more

If he gets watched any more closely we will be diving down his pores. What makes you think he will take away any more liberties than have already been taken away from us? Our telephone lines can be tapped and our e-mail monitored without warrant, remember? Our names can be placed on no-fly lists without our knowledge and without recourse. Our computers can be searched at border crossings. Our names can be wiped from voting rosters or invalidated because we missed mortgage payments. We are now forced to carry government identification to get access to the most basic of services. We have been forced to pay for a war we have not been able to vote for or against, and to bail out Wall Street giants who then turn around and use our taxes to hold high-priced "business conferences" at luxury hotels. I was held captive on an island for five days by my own government, unable to leave for any reason, and ever after that I was aware of increased numbers of surveillance aircraft in the skies over my home. When one of the political parties came to have their convention, their convention center was walled off by cement barricades, and there were police on every street corner within a ten-block radius, then police at every intersection for another ten-block radius. (It was our taxes as residents of the city that paid them, too, not the political party or the national government, never mind that we had not been allowed to decide if we wanted the convention and its added expenses.) Demonstrators were immediately jailed and held without the ability to consult an attorney for three days. Please don't tell me about the rights I might lose when I am well able to look at those I have lost. And here is an idea. Instead of freaking out over the liberties you think the president-elect is going to take away, why don't you wait and see if he takes any? Right now he's just getting his ducks in a row.

Talk about Freaking out!?

OK, sounds like you've been through some trying times. I don't think anyone likes the fact that our privacy has gone out the window. Yes, it was supposed to be done to protect us from the terrorists, and now it is overkill, but it is not going away so we have to deal with it. When I say that our freedoms are in danger, I mean MORE of our freedoms. The silencing of radio talk shows, the mandate of supposed civilian military corps, the fines that MAY be given to business owners that don't provide the type of health care government insists on, the taxing of hard working Americans to the point where they won't be able to stay in business (This will hurt everyone if it happens). Oh...and then there is Jeremiah Wright, Ayers, Khadid (sorry about the spelling). I'm not against giving Obama a fair shot at this (I don't have a choice), but I just wish more of you would think about the ramifications of worshiping a man who has clearly made friends with some pretty scary ANTI-AMERICAN people. You cannot deny this. And...I want everyone out there to keep one thing in mind. The most important thing. WE AS A COUNTRY will be the safest if we find a way to meet in the middle. If you go too far left or too far right it isn't safe for anyone. That is why I am blogging with you now. I see a lot of your points and they make sense to me, even though I am a conservative, but you also need to find a way to see our side of the story. And, please why so much anger and aggression in the responses people. Can't we just talk?

The right wing is NOT

The right wing is NOT CHRISTIAN!!!

Are you kidding me?

Ditto on the patriot act comment. Are Christians okay with the kind of torture that went on at Abu Graib? Sadistic Sex Maniac torture? Wasn't it the so called Conservatives who've spent us into oblivian and deregulated businesses to the point of creating the economic crisis we're in? What in the hell is so Christian about that stuff? The first amendment does not allow you to incite violence I believe which is what the right wing radio talk shows do. Those of us listening have every right to fact check and accuse those people of lying. Now here's what I was thinking today, if the so called conservatives (whatever that means...) have half as much of the fear and loathing I've been feeling for the last 8 years and yes, ever since Reagan then GOOD!!!!

You Have Got to Be Kidding!

How could you even think for one milisecond that Christians are in favor of the torture at Abu? It sickens us. A lot of what has happend in Iraq has sickened me. Personally I don't think we had any business invading a country based on hypothetical evidence of weapons of mass destruction. It was a crock of shit. And I am a conservative. Not all consevatives or Christians believe in what our government has done. What is past is past. Now we need to make sure our new leaders do us proud. In my eyes, that means making sure our liberties are always in tact. I am not understanding why most of you bloggers seem to be writing in such an angry and aggressive manner. We need to find a way to meet in the middle or we will all pay for it. I will say it again...too far left or too far right is not healthy or safe for anyone here. Can't we just talk?

Recall

Recall a little thing called the Patriot Act?

Good Point about the Patriot Act

But, why are we adding to BIG BROTHER and BIG GOVERNMENT? I don't want government telling me how to live my life! We are going down that road and fast. Once you give up your freedoms you won't get them back.

Why?

Why all the paranoia and quasi-hysteria? After having lived the past 8 years with a unitary executive power drunk President and VP who have trashed the Constitution and advocated deregulation, it is refreshing to anticipate the Constitution being enforced and regulations in place to prevent corporate greed. Give the guy a chance before judging him. It definitely can't get much worse than the past 8 years.

SIGNS

Actually, I haven't figured that out yet. Honestly, it just started with a "feeling" I had about Obama. Don't get me wrong...I am excited about having the first black president in office. I would've been just as excited to see a woman in there too. But there are too many unanswered questions about the man. His associations are shady at best. I consider some of them down-right scary. And...what is up with the purchasing of all these guns lately? What are Americans afraid of? Maybe they feel it too. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Biden makes statement like "MARK MY WORD...HE WILL BE TESTED. JOIN US" etc...the videos of children worshiping this guy in song. The fact that in Racine Wisconsin a 2008 copyright 8th grade American Literature textbook came out with a 15 page spread on Obama's "life of service." Give me a break! He's in his 40's. What do they mean life of service? And, as a former history teacher, I was lucky to find 1 page on the war of 1812, and maybe 8 pages on the civil war in a text book. What the hell is going on when publishing companies are printing 15 pages about a man who wasn't even in office yet? I mean, they would've had to print that well over a year ago (at least). Doesn't that worry anyone?

THanks to Ernieson for his comments.

I agree with this writer. He hits the nail on the head.

Upcoming Runoff

Let's hope the runoff election in Georgia has positive results for our Senate. Once again, it will be a smear campaign (like the one done to Cleland) being challenged by an issues based campaign. Let's hope all qualified voters will be able to vote and have their votes counted. It's not who votes that counts, but who counts the votes that matters. Thanks Janejane for the kind word.

great story....

umm. Mercman..did you come up with that witty story yourself or maybe get the same email i did...i thought it as ignorant now as i did then...the bum sitting on the corner who does not work, will not get money, he may however get some help to work his way back into society..that waiter you stiffed, earns nothing for a living and works his/her butt off..while you do what, complain and come up with propaganda disguised as lame stories you pawn off as your own?

Your cynicism is showing

That little "social experiment" by mercman reminds me of something Rush Limpig would himself do (or claim that he'd done) in order to prove a point. What an idiot. But man, these people just can't accept that things are going to change for the better and that, yes, THEY will actually have to contribute (screaming, yelling and whining) to making things better for others in society. I hope Obama taxes the sh*t out of these cynical, sarcastic, heartless GOP bastards so's I can hear the squealing throughout the land. The pendulum has changed direction -- deal with it.

Ridiculous comment

Your comments about taxing the shit out of people is utterly ridiculous. If you think that is the answer, you are sadly mistaken. How about talking about all the positives that Obama is going to add to this country. I really want to hear the specifics of his plan. What wil he do to help ALL Americans? Even those who are wealthy or conservative...yeah the ones you loath. Why don't you post some of those details. I want to learn about it. Really I do.

Change for the better?

When you say things will change for the better, what exactly are you referring to? The fact that everyone will be molded into the same category...middle class. What does middle class mean to you anyway? Why should anyone work harder or achieve more if it means we will be put in that upper tax bracket? My brother is in that situation right now. His wife is a fantastic first grade teacher, but if she gets a job they'll be making over $200,000. So, basically she is not going to get a job because her salary will go to someone else. Should she work her butt off for free? I think not. These principals simply are not what America is supposed to be about.

BS .... crunch the numbers

Sounds like someone needs a little remedial first grade math. Under Obama's plan, those making between $111,000 and $227,000 would pay $2,700 less in taxes. If your brother and his wife would be earning more than $227,000 it may cost them. Those earning between $227,000 and $603,000 would pay a whopping $121 more. So in reality, her salary is not "going to someone else".

BTW - If she earns more than $603,000 as a first grade teacher, she'll pay more in taxes, but at that salary, somehow I'm guessing she'll still take the job.

They will

Yes, they would probably earn around 240-250 if she got a job. But, why such cockiness in your response? Geeze people, this is supposed to be about communicating and learning. Maybe you are right about your figures and maybe not. No one really knows for sure yet exactly what will happen. Because they are unsure about what is going to happen exactly, she WILL wait to get a job. Wouldn't you?

No, I wouldn't ....

If she genuinely believes she should not take a job teaching because her "salary will go to someone else," she is completely ignorant of the tax code and/or Obama's tax plan. Even if their income increased to $240-250K, the increase of 2.5% to the top marginal rate would not affect them in the least, since the proposal is to increase the marginal rate above $250K. Beyond that, even if the top margin cutoff were lowered to whatever amount your brother earns, it means she would only pay an additional 2.5% of her total income in federal income tax, above and beyond what she would pay under the current tax code. And this is assuming she would not benefit at all from the tax cuts which are also part of Obama's plan.

Long story short, of course "no one really knows for sure yet exactly what will happen," because it's a proposal, not a law. That's a silly straw argument. But with or without Obama's plan, she'll keep the vast majority of the income she earns from a teaching job. She will not be "working her butt off for free", and if she really believes that, she's woefully ignorant.

On second thought, maybe she shouldn't be teaching.

christms - RE: Your Brother and His Wife

At least your brother's wife is not in the position of having to frantically balance work and child care just to make ends meet. I'm sorry she has this tax bracket "dilemma", but a lot of people in this country are struggling to pay the bills and keep a roof over their heads, or they have already lost the "roof" and are just trying to keep the children fed. We've had enough of "trickle down". It's time to level the playing field.

WEll SAID

I hear you. And, I understand where you are coming from. I'm not a heartless citizen who cares for no one other than myself. But, I know how hard my brother and sister in law have worked to even get to where they are today. Nothing comes easy. I don't think we need to make it EASY for those who are less fortunate finanacially. I am afraid that if we aren't careful about how our money is distrubuted, we could actually end up doing a disservice to the less fortunate. Will they be motivated to better themselves on their own if government promises to take care of them? It's just a thought.

Some changes ... for the better

Have you been in a coma the last 8 years? ALL things will change for the better once the Busheviks leave town. As far as economics go, the money-funnel will no longer funnel the nation's wealth upwards to the top 2%. It will be spread out to things that really have been neglected for the past 8 years eg., the physical and social infrastructure of the country, schools, roads, bridges, social programs, universal health care, etc. Another economic change for the better we can expect: the decrease, if not the end, of corporate welfare. One more change: the Iraq occupation. Once we're out of there those billions will be spread out as well. No more Bechtel, no more Halliburton, no more private contractors sucking up money that should go to re-building America. Have you ever heard of a thing called "the social contract"? Look it up. Finally, you say: "These principals [sp?] simply are not what America is supposed to be about." Could you list some the principles YOU think America is about? I'm really interested to know.

WELL, EXCUSE ME!

Good Golly, I guess I misspelled one word. I guess because I'm a conservative that would make me ignorant. The principles I am talking about are freedom of speech, freedom of press, the right to bare arms, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, the right to live how I want to live without the government telling me which doctor I can see, and how much electricity I can use in my home, and what car I must buy, and which schools my kids must attend, and how many hours of community service I must donate to my community. I am bright enough and caring enough to do the right thing. I take care of people every day in my profession. I do not need government looking over my shoulder, taxing the crap out of me because I am not following THEIR rules, and penalizing me for not being what they want me to be.

The "right to bare arms"?

Someone wants to take away your sleeveless shirts?

Principles

The borrow and spend policies of the past 8 years have gotten us in a mess. We have a graduated income tax system ie the more you make, the more your taxes. Live with it. If you want schools, roads, law enforcement, and wars, you cannot cut taxes and still have them. It's either cut taxes or cut spending. The Bush tax cuts done in the face of war were irresponsible. Oh to have the luxury of making over $200K. That is not the case for most citizens. How much does it take to live comfortably? If a person can't cut it on $200K, maybe they'd better look at their habits.

DC

It depends where you live. When you live in DC 200,000 isn't much. He pays 2300 just in rent. Could he afford to buy a house there? no way. Whose got 600,000 laying around to do that?

I'm so old, I remember when

I'm so old, I remember when all republicans weren't idiots.

Do Tell.............

I actually thought I might entertain a reply....Ah, but I digress, I really do........
